Event description

Swap mass production for beautiful and bespoke at the 'Maker Difference - Pop-up Letterpress Studio' a theatrical spectacle presented by Cockpit Arts and SORT.

SORT (the Society Of Revisionist Typographers) design and make affordable, beautifully handcrafted products in the UK. They use antique printing presses to create stunning contemporary books, cards and curios - fusing design technologies with traditional techniques. Their work is sold through retailers including Liberty and Magma. www.sortdesign.com

For the London Design Festival, Cockpit Arts will be recreating SORT's studio in Carnaby, one of Londons busiest shopping districts, as a living installation. You can watch the designers at work, buy bespoke print and even try your hand at letterpress printing for free. The project is part of Maker Difference, Cockpit Arts' campaign to raise awareness and support for designer-makers creating work in the UK.
