London Design Festival is looking for an Operations Director to work across our activities in 2018.

London Design Festival: 15 – 23 September 2018
First staged in 2003, the London Design Festival is one of the world's most important annual design events. The Festival programme is made up of over 400 events and exhibitions staged by hundreds of organisations across the design spectrum and from around the world. The Festival acts as an umbrella organisation, promoting all of the activity across our communication channels. In addition to this activity spread across the city, the London Design Festival produce an extensive range of events and projects at key locations such as the hub venue at the Victoria and Albert Museum and Trafalgar Square.


London Design Festival is looking for an experienced Operations Director with the capacity to coordinate and manage our activity during September 2018. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the operational delivery of projects and exhibitions, from inception to realisation, providing strategic direction and instruction to the project delivery team and working with a number of different stakeholders, contractors and third parties. The chosen candidate will be an integral part of the 2018 senior management team.


  • Oversea the operational budgets
  • Ensure timelines and deadlines are met
  • Managing the internal and external project delivery teams
  • Improve and implement systems and process for the smooth delivery of all activity
  • Working with the other relevant departments to recruit and contract staff
  • Report on status and progress to the senior management team
  • Manage key external relationships with stakeholders when required
  • Oversee and support the project managements teams to ensure compliance and best practice in relation to project Health and Safety, CDM, Insurance and Planning and Permissions.
  • Liaise and develop positive working relationships key with contractors
  • On site management and support during events



7-8 years minimum relevant experience
Good understanding of the project management and logistic processes including: H&S and CDM considerations, site and operation logistics, installation and de-installation processes and event management
Experience managing multi-exhibitor exhibitions and high profile public installations
A keen organisational sense with meticulous attention to detail
Ability to think clearly and solve problems effectively under pressure
Strong leadership skills and experience in managing a diverse team
Great interpersonal skills
