The 2,500 Year History of the Alphabet with Paul Antonio

by Better Bankside

Exclusively for London Design Festival, Master Calligrapher Paul Antonio will take you on a journey through the 2,500 year history of the alphabet for a free evening lecture on Tuesday 19 September.

This large-scale lettering lecture-demonstration will show historical and contemporary calligraphy, taking a closer looks at the scripts of Shakespeare, Chaucer and Dickens. You'll be introduced to different aspects of writing with a variety of tools and materials, both traditional and modern.

This special event will be hosted at the National Trust's The George Inn, dating back to the 16th century on Tuesday 19 September from 6 - 8pm. This much-loved London pub is located just off historic Borough High Street, one of London’s oldest thoroughfares, and was known to be frequented by Shakespeare and Dickens. Just around the corner in Talbot Yard is a blue plaque marking the site of The Tabard Inn, the site from which Chaucer's pilgrims set off in 1386.
