MSCTY EXPO is a new digital meeting-place of architecture and sound art, presenting visions of the future through architectural concepts and corresponding sonic pieces. MSCTY EXPO for LDF 2020 is curated by Nick Luscombe and Clare Farrow. Support by Sto. Image © Studio Libeskind.
Musicity has partnered with this year's London Design Festival to present the first edition of MSCTY EXPO, an innovative digital meeting-space for architecture and sound art, responding to some of the global issues of our time. It has been curated by Nick Luscombe, BBC Radio 3 presenter and director of the site-specific sound/arts practice Musicity (www.mscty.space) in collaboration with London writer and curator Clare Farrow (clarefarrowstudio), who specialises in architecture, art, design and music.
This travelling and lasting project begins with an inspiring collection of 7 new collaborations: Richard Rogers and Yuri Suzuki; Daniel Libeskind ("Theatrum Mundi") and Yuval Avital ("Meditations on Theatrum Mundi"); Elsie Owusu and Chisara Agor ("Gallery for Returning Treasures"); Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos and Bill Fontana; Lily Jencks and Hannah Peel ("Horizon: your steps are a metronome. 30 minutes, 23 July 2020"); Ab Rogers and Loraine James; and PiM.studio and mcconville.
Presenting architectural visions (unrealised, “impossible”, imagined) in dialogue with specially commissioned sound pieces, MSCTY EXPO explores the links between architecture and music.
At a time of profound change, of physical and sensory disconnection, when issues of health, inequality and climate emergency are also bringing us closer together on digital platforms, MSCTY EXPO aims to inspire new discussions and collaborative thinking through space and sound.
A MSCTY webinar panel discussion featuring some of the participants will be taking place during the Festival, supported by Sto. Please see www.mscty.space and @musicityglobal for details.
