Battersea is an area rich in industrial heritage and cultural history and has long been a hub of innovation and creativity. This year, Battersea Design District will build on its legacy, expanding our offerings to further engage the community and spotlight sustainable and urban design.
Wandsworth Council is proud to support the following featured artists: Voices of Wandsworth by Roopa Design An art installation capturing the voices of the Wandsworth community, where personal messages will be transformed into a display of origami butterflies, symbolising growth, transformation, and freedom. Available to view Mon-Fri 2pm-8pm at OSMO Battersea Nine Days in Nine Elms by Anaya Jade The Ayana Jade Open Studio at OSMO includes a creative workshop merging foliage, calming jadeite gems and an enchanting kaleidoscope of colour with the emotiveness of ethical jade jewellery. The result is an immersive experience of touch, sight and sound, promoting wellbeing. This is the first in a series of nine workshops over the next few months. Available to view Mon-Fri 2pm-8pm at OSMO Battersea Tote Bag Making Workshop by Scene in LDN Print your own tote bag with Samantha Foley, the artist behind creative business 'Scene in London'. Experiment with paints, rollers and stamps in this fun and engaging workshop hosted at the R.O.S.E Community Clubroom in Wandsworth. You'll get to take home your very own tote bag, an original piece designed by you at LDF2024. All ages and artistic abilities welcome. Available to drop in on 18th of September from 12:30-6:30pm, R.O.S.E Community Clubroom Jewellery Workshop by Ayana Jade Anaya Jade invites you to a free, exciting challenge with prizes! All you have to do is draw pictures of their favourite sportsperson with their jewellery. All ages and artistic abilities welcome. Available to drop in on 18th of September from 12:30-6:30pm, R.O.S.E Community Clubroom Open day at Doddington and Rollo Roof Gardens The community roof garden opens its doors for the day for London Design Festival audiences to discover this diverse, thriving community garden at the heart of the Doddington and Rollo estate in Battersea. Visitors are welcome to drop in throughout the day on Wed 18 September, where there will be drop-in mosaic workshops from 10am - 5pm, and warm drinks and music by local musicians from 6pm – 9pm Art and Architecture Walking Tour of Nine Elms by History Speak Explore the history, future, and lived experience of the neighbourhood through art and architecture. The tour will start at Battersea Power Station & the experience will take you on a walk around the US Embassy, the newly opened Arch 42 and the floating village of Nine Elms and Yinka Ilori’s Happy Street to one of the icons of industrial Britain. Available for bookings via Eventbrite, Ttours will take place from 5-7pm on Wed 18th of September. Living with Industry: A community’s view on improving Silverthorne Road by Daab Design Discover the fantastic history of the Stewarts Lane Rail Depot. Explore, through design engagement, the role it will play in linking communities and how it will contribute to London’s post Covid economic recovery. We will explore its origins in the dense industrial powerhouse of the Battersea Tangle and how, through a new view of industrial densification, it can link the communities it once severed. Available for bookings via Eventbrite, show will take place on Wednesday 18th September from 4pm to 8pm at Daab Design Silverthorne Rd. African Textiles Workshop by Fée Uhssi This workshop offers a deep dive into the rich history of African fashion, exploring its evolution from traditional costumes to contemporary trends. Participants will gain valuable insights into the cultural significance of African design and its influence on global fashion. Available for Bookings on Eventbrite, Workshop will take place from 4:30-6:30pm on Wed 18th of September at OSMO Battersea.
