Experience the extraordinary craftsmanship of artisans from Myanmar, with a specially curated display of heritage inspired textiles, homewares, jewellery and lacquerware.
Turquoise Mountain was founded by His Majesty King Charles to revive historic areas and traditional crafts, and provide jobs and skills where cultural heritage is under threat. A special display for London Design Festival, adds more cultural context and insight into the knowledge passed down generation to generation through the centuries, focusing on woven fabrics – hand crafted in rural regions by some of the countries most talented artisans. Myanmar has an extraordinarily rich and diverse textile heritage from backstrap to frame loom weaving, and over 135 ethnic groups, many with their own textile traditions. These pieces tell the story of Turquoise Mountain’s work in Myanmar, creating jobs for hundreds of people in the craft sector as one of the most powerful and practical ways to bring incomes to women and their families. Through artisan support, technical training, product development assistance, and business training, Turquoise Mountain is helping artisans across the country to help them promote a new vision of Myanmar. Visit during the festival to experience these crafts first hand, or join us for Tuesday evening's event to learn more about the stories behind these extraordinary hand-crafted textiles.
