What does the chair of now look like? At London Design Festival, Kartell presents Savoia, the first collaboration between the brand and Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby. A special installation at the London flagship will mark its UK debut, culminating on Thursday 17 September in a live In Conversation, where the designers will share the ideas and creative process behind the project. Savoia embodies lightness, precision and formal clarity. Its defining feature is an exceptionally slender die-cast aluminium frame: a continuous line that extends into the armrests and traces the chair’s distinctive profile. Fluid and visually refined, the structure combines an elegant economy of form with remarkable strength. Available in glossy colours as well as a chrome finish, the aluminium frame gives the collection an expressive, contemporary character while revealing its industrial soul. The seat and backrest introduce a rich interplay of materials, with options in coloured recycled technopolymer, curved wood or leather. These combinations allow Savoia to move across different interiors and stylistic languages while retaining its clear identity. More than a single chair, Savoia is conceived as a versatile system. Offered with or without armrests and in configurations suitable for indoor and outdoor use, it adapts naturally to residential, hospitality, dining and wider contract settings. Rather than belonging to a particular era or category, its measured aesthetic finds a refined balance between technology and comfort, visual lightness and structural confidence. For Barber and Osgerby, Savoia is an exploration of how minimal elements can create a strong and recognisable presence. For Kartell, it represents a new expression of the brand’s ongoing approach to innovation: bringing together advanced production, material research and design intelligence to shape an object made for the way we live now.
