Material Matters is the leading platform for material intelligence for architects and designers. The live talks programme during the London fair is an essential experience for visitors. Taking place across four days, topics range from circularity and craft to regenerative design.
The Material Matters talks programme is a central part of the fair, bringing together influential and inspiring figures in architecture, design, making, and material innovation. Curated by Co-founder of Material Matters, Grant Gibson, the series of conversations and panel discussions explores the themes that shape contemporary thinking — from sustainability, circularity, and regenerative design to the enduring importance of craft, heritage, and the politics of materials. The programme aims to ask difficult questions about how the design industry can adapt to the climate crisis, while also celebrating the ingenuity of those working with innovative processes and traditional skills. Over four days, visitors can expect to hear from key figures in architecture, design and manufacturing, all offering insights into how materials can inform culture, identity, and community. Sessions are designed to be thought-provoking yet accessible, encouraging open dialogue between speakers and audiences. Whether the focus is on new technologies, biomaterials, or craft traditions, the talks provide a high-quality opportunity to step back from the marketplace and reflect on the bigger picture. In doing so, the programme underlines the fair’s mission: to demonstrate that materials are not simply functional, but fundamental to how we design, live, and think. All talks are free to visitors to the fair.
