Running throughout the exhibition period (14-21 September 2025), Qloud Collective will host a series of workshops and events designed to deepen public engagement with the themes of materiality, care, and contemporary craft through workshops led by Cheong Ah Baik, Onzième (MoonYoung Seo) and Sebastian Sochan.
As an extension of The Sun is but a Morning Star, Qloud Collective presents a series of workshops and public programmes that will offer the opportunity to engage with the artists and directly with craft. Curator tours led by Qloud’s team of curators and workshops by participating artists, the line-up of activities will explore the contemporary meditative qualities of craft. To slow down, to observe, and to make with intention. From the 14th of September onwards, the workshops will echo the exhibition’s spirit. The following activities are included: Sebastian Sochan Chrome and Beaded Charm Making Workshop Sebastian is a UK artist and designer, creating handmade homewares and pastel sculptures, including tufted pieces and functional objects such as hanging mobiles. In this workshop, we will explore the importance of play in art making and juxtaposing different materials and themes such as hard and soft, moving and still, and sweet and harsh in order to create combinations that are unique and otherworldly. We will create personal charms in order to reconnect with our sense of childlike play, using different charm making techniques, both conventional and unconventional such as beadwork, drawing and nail art. Through experimentation, we will learn to let our decisions change at each stage of the making process. Dates: 14th September 2025 (2:00PM - 3:30PM) 20th September 2025 (11:00AM - 12:30PM) Onzième (MoonYoung Seo) Textile Harvest In this hands-on workshop, participants will create a charming still-life fruit basket using artificial textile flowers, handmade flat peach objects, and decorative paper. The session explores the playful intersection of nature and craft, inviting you to compose a soft, joyful object full of colour and texture. Dates: 14th September 2025 (11:00AM - 1:00PM) 17th September 2025 (2:00PM - 4:00PM) Cheong Ah Baik Flow & Form: Intuitive Crochet Sculpting with Korean Mulberry Paper Yarn This workshop invites participants to explore crochet beyond fixed patterns, embracing an intuitive, free-form sculpting approach. Guided by the natural flow of the hand and moment-to-moment decisions, attendees will create unique three-dimensional pieces without pre-designed structures. The session will begin with a brief hands-on introduction to Jiseung, the traditional Korean technique of twisting hanji (mulberry paper) into yarn. While participants will experience this process briefly, the main activity will use ready-made paper yarn (Hanji-sa) to focus on sculpting. Blending heritage material with contemporary expression, this session encourages a meditative and spontaneous creative process. Dates: 19th September 2025 (2:00PM - 3:30PM) 20th September 2025 (2:00PM - 4:00PM)
