Residual: What Never Stays is a group exhibition presented by LILIS LAB as part of London Design Festival 2026. Bringing together artists and designers from around the world, the exhibition explores the traces, structures and relationships that quietly shape every act of making, yet rarely remain visible.

Every act of creation leaves something behind. Not only finished objects, but also the processes, materials, temporary structures and invisible relationships that make those works possible. Residual: What Never Stays invites artists and designers to reconsider these overlooked elements of creative practice. Rather than focusing solely on completed outcomes, the exhibition explores what disappears once a work is finished, and asks what these absences reveal about making, memory and material culture. Presented by LILIS LAB as part of London Design Festival 2026, the exhibition brings together international practitioners working across photography, sculpture, installation, moving image, digital media, publishing, material experimentation and interdisciplinary practice. The exhibition will take place at Calder Contemporary in London, creating a platform for dialogue between artists, designers and the public throughout the festival. Alongside the exhibition, LILIS LAB will introduce its Artist Platform, supporting participating artists in presenting editions, publications and artist-made objects. Selected artists may also continue collaborating with LILIS LAB through future exhibitions, commissions, workshops and creative projects. Residual is not only an exhibition, but the beginning of an ongoing conversation about how artistic practice continues beyond the finished work.
