Yinka Ilori is a multidisciplinary artist and designer known for his vibrant, colourful, and joyful designs. His visual language draws on his British-Nigerian heritage to convey new narratives through contemporary design.
For London Design Festival, Ilori will throw open the doors to his new studio in Park Royal, providing audiences with an opportunity to view recent work and a glimpse at his design process. Ilori's new studio opened in April 2022 and was designed in collaboration with Sam Jacob, principle of Sam Jacob Studio and a former director of FAT Architects. Drawing inspiration from Ilori’s heritage as well as his upbringing on a council estate in Islington, Ilori and Jacob have created a dynamic, layered space which incorporates the bright colours and playful elements that are characteristic of the designer’s work, while rethinking the role and function of the artists’ studio and the needs of the team. The open studio coincides with 'Yinka Ilori: Parables of Happiness', the designer's first major institutional exhibition which will be on view at the Design Museum and will showcase his distinctive aesthetic of playful combinations of colour and pattern, inspired by the African fabrics of his childhood and capturing colourful geometric patterns that feature in Nigerian design, with a nod to British postmodernism.
