"A LONG DAY" - Textile and Flavor Convergence

"A LONG DAY" is a collaborative installation from knit artist Yu-Mei Huang and the Creative director of BAO, Erchen Chang at BAO King's Cross. Debuting as part of the September 2023 London Design Festival, this installation seamlessly blends Yu-Mei Huang's textured knit artworks with Erchen Chang's emotive illustrations, inspired by the iconic character, Lonely man. The collaboration draws inspiration from the versatile Chinese word "包" (bāo), signifying both "bun" and "bag," and culminates in the creation of "Lonely Bags." These unique pieces combine Erchen's illustrations with knit bags, depicting the various moods people experience after a long day and extends to a captivating textile installation at BAO's King's Cross. Yu-Mei Huang, celebrated for her distinctive knit pleats textile, introduces iconic works like the "Plisse knit bag," drawing inspiration from Taiwan's ubiquitous red-striped plastic market bags. These sustainable accessories, meticulously crafted through pleats knitting and hand-printing techniques, stand as a testament to durability, versatility, and a commitment to zero-waste principles, all while upholding the highest standards of artisan craftsmanship. By reimagining the Taiwanese street market tradition, where individuals gather after a long day to savor food and carry their finds in red plastic bags, we extend a cordial invitation for you to join us at BAO King's Cross during the London Design Festival in September 2023. "A LONG DAY" celebrates creativity, culture, and the beauty of collaboration, all within a setting where textile and flavor elegantly converge, while honouring the cultural traditions of Taiwan.
