Alper Derinboğaz

Alper Derinboğaz is an architect and academic who explores the relationship between environment and spatial systems through scientific approaches. His work spans cultural institutions such as the upcoming Istanbul City Museum alongside installations and masterplans. Focusing on the disconnection between human-made environments and nature, his approach has been described as “inventive.” He leads Salon, recognized by ArchDaily as one of the best young architecture practices, while also teaching graduate studios at Pratt Institute.

A Fulbright Scholar and recipient of the UCLA Graduate Award, Derinboğaz has also been selected among Europe’s “40 Under 40” architects. His research has been exhibited internationally, including at the Venice Architecture Biennale curated by Rem Koolhaas, where he presented Modalities of the Spontaneous, a study on urban development and geography. His projects have received awards in international competitions, from Songdo Library in Korea to Kaunas Science Island in Lithuania. His work has been featured in major media outlets and published in the book Geospaces by Actar Publishers. Beyond practice, he contributes to urban policy through the Urban Land Institute and local advocacy groups.
