Fleet Street, long known as the historic heart of British journalism and print, is stepping into a new creative era. In 2025, the Fleet Street Quarter will launch as a new Design District for the London Design Festival, reimagining a district steeped in centuries of communication and innovation. This exciting development honours Fleet Street’s remarkable legacy. It was here in 1500 that Wynkyn de Worde, successor to William Caxton—the man who brought the first movable type press to England—established his printing press beside St Bride’s Church. Through the 19th and 20th centuries, the street was home to iconic newspapers such as The Times, Daily Express, and The Daily Telegraph. Giant presses once thundered beneath the buildings, literally making the street hum with news. Though the last journalists left in 2016, Fleet Street’s identity as a hub for media and storytelling endures.
