Urban by Nature is a creative programme from community organisations William Morris Big Local and Wood Street Walls CIC and connecting to the national programme Creative Civic Change. Our mission is to grow creative connections for the benefit of the community. We work towards common goals with residents, artists, community groups, businesses, schools and colleges, developing projects that support people to connect and grow creatively. Although our focus is broad-based, we prioritise work with young people and organisations supporting youth. We’re based in Walthamstow and currently focus on two neighbourhoods, William Morris and Wood Street. Our name reflects the communities we work in bordering Epping Forest and the Lee Valley. We grew out of 100s of conversations in 2019 which led to funding from the Creative Civic Change programme. Today we’re guided by a steering group of local people who champion the work and shape its direction.
