British artist Es Devlin CBE RDI (born London 1971) views an audience as a temporary society and invites public participation in communal choral works. Her genre-defying practice ranges from public sculptures and installations outside at Tate Modern, Trafalgar Square, Pinacoteca di Brera Milan, Castle Howard, Miami Beach and Lincoln Centre Plaza, and inside the National Portrait Gallery, V&A and V&A East Storehouse, Serpentine, Imperial War Museum and Somerset House, to kinetic stage designs at the Royal Opera House, the National Theatre and the Metropolitan Opera, as well as Olympic Ceremonies for London 2012 and Rio 2016, Super-Bowl halftime shows 2021, 2022 and monumental illuminated stage sculptures for large scale stadium concerts in collaboration with the world’s most celebrated musicians.
