In 2008 he founded OK-RM with Oliver Knight, a studio intent on pushing the potential of what a design practice can be. OK-RM interrogate beliefs, procedures, temporal and material realities, considering and reconsidering what it means to be in the world and work together. With strong relationships to individuals and institutions in UK, Europe, US, China and Japan, McGrath’s ongoing collaborations provide the agility to move between rhetorical approaches, and a confidence to attend to the feeling at the core of each project. Extending the curiosity and nuance of the studio, InOtherWords was founded in 2015 as a means to further pursue conversations within the book form. Rory has lectured and participated as guest critic at leading art and design institutes and held the position of professor of Spatial Design at ISIA Urbino in Italy. His work has been exhibited globally and OK-RM’s recent solo show A Meaningful Order will travel from Hangzhou, China to London in early 2025.
