Rose Gibbs initiated the Mountford Estate Community Hall self-build project, and co-leads it with Sahra Hersi. She is an artist who endeavours to reconfigure the grounds upon which participation in the cultural landscape is made possible by building networks, organising discussions and collaborating with others to create a more democratic, inclusive and caring cultural sphere. Responding to the need to recognise and facilitate cultural activity from the grassroots up, she founded the community organisation Mountford Growing Community in 2016 on the council estate where she lives, and launched the cookbook that emerged from that project at Tate Modern in 2019. Through conversations with neighbours about the dilapidated state of the community hall on Mountford Estate and inspired by the homes constructed in a self-build project by Claude Hendrickson, who she met in 2013, she initiated this project in 2020.
