A pop up exhibition inspired by Eleanor Coade, 18th Century pioneer of Coadestone. This exhibition, in collaboration with the Royal College of Art, brings together 12 designers exploring alternative materials and their possibilities today.
The designers will be experimenting with shredded polymer and paper banknotes alongside other sustainable or recycled materials and also reinterpreting economic and financial business models.
Expect to see a sculptural tower created from paper banknotes inspired by the mosiacs in the Bank by Boris Anrep alongside shredded polymer banknote gold bars by Julian Leedham; Money Transmitters, by Micaella Pedros, designs incorporating shredded banknotes which suggest structures to channel and transmit value; a new interpretation by Adam Knight of the Monetary National Income Analogue Computer (MONIAC) machine created by William Phillips, an engineer-turned economist, which allows the user to syphon water to emulate different economic scenarios through imports/exports, taxes, savings and wages and furniture designed from felled London plane trees by On the Marshes and furniture created using Bloomberg's used pallets by Studiomama as part of the Waste Not Want It project.
