A durational sound and light installation at the cross-over between art and wellness. Created by A Right/Left Project (Stephen Dobbie & Colin Nightingale – associate artists at Punchdrunk) with composer Toby Young and lighting designer Ben Donoghue, each cycle of the experience reveals what is hidden at its core.
Origin is a deep listening art installation inviting patrons to lay down and be bathed in sound and light. Born out of a desire to create a calming space to allow the audience to slow down and disconnect from the everyday, this mesmeric audio world explores themes around the cycle of life and our human connection with nature. Presented over World Heart Beat’s cutting edge d&b Soundscape system, this spatialised original soundtrack contains elements of sound design generated utilising Bronze, an animated music composition tool, along with contributions from students at The Department of Theatre and Performance, Goldsmiths University of London. The project was developed in conversation with the scientific team at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew – specifically Wakehurst, Kew’s wild botanic garden in Sussex, home of the Millennium Seed Bank A Right/Left Project is a creative studio founded by artists Stephen Dobbie and Colin Nightingale, that makes projects involving immersive storytelling and challenging conventional forms of interacting with art and music in transformative ways. Origin is part of a series of deep listening experiences that the studio has been developing over recent years that can pop up in a variety of spaces from traditional venues like galleries and concert halls to the more unusual like hotel bedrooms and stately homes. World Heat Beat is one of a handful of venues in the country that has the immersive d&b Soundscape permanently installed, making it the perfect host for Origin. The ground-breaking audio system was developed with Brian Eno and Bjork to provide sound as it is meant to be heard; “probably the best live sound I’ve experienced.” (The Wire) d&b Soundscape is the pinnacle of experience creation, shaping the most intimate atmospheres. It provides a degree of realism such that the entire audience can connect to the artist like nothing else.
