After the Centre: The Invisible forces of our time

Many of the forces that shape daily life are not immediately visible. They can be found in the technologies we use, the social structures we live within, and the memories and emotions that inform our sense of self. After the Centre: The Invisible Forces of Our Time looks at how these influences are experienced at an individual level. Rather than offering an overarching account of the present, the exhibition begins with the ways people navigate change and reconsider their place within it. The works address a range of interconnected concerns. Some consider how algorithms and data systems affect our choices and understanding of the world. Others explore the role of memory and emotion in shaping identity and our experience of time. Questions of labour, automation and social structure also emerge, alongside works that examine how space, light and images influence what we see and accept as real. Through these different artistic positions, the exhibition draws attention to forces that often remain beneath the surface, asking how we might recognise their effects and respond to them.
