This exhibition displays short-listed designs for an innovative roving “Mobile Museum”, touring national collections across the UK, with particular focus on reaching underserved or remote communities.

Art Explora, an international arts charity which promotes greater access to arts and culture, invited seven well-known design practices to develop concept proposals for this innovative vehicle: Studio Weave, OMMX, Neon Architects, MAP Project Office, 6a architects, Sam Jacob and Ab Rogers Design. All design proposals were required to meet national museum display standards while in transit.  Four practices were shortlisted for developed designs, and the selected practice is Ab Rogers Design, commended by the jury for combining the joy of the circus with practical considerations for the collection display and visitor experience.    The new truck and design competition are being supported by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), and developed in partnership with the Government Art Collection. The truck is being built in the UK by Torton Bodies Ltd. National collection partners for the launch year in 2027 are the Government Art Collection, National Portrait Gallery, and Leeds Art Gallery. Every year the Mobile Museum will tour exhibitions from three different national collections. Art Explora operates a fleet of mobile museums in France. This will be the first dedicated UK Mobile Museum. MuMo - Musée mobile - was originally founded by Ingrid Brochard.
