#LDF25 LondonDesignFestival BillAmbergStudio KingstonUniversity LeatherShowcase

Bill Amberg Studio will spotlight the next generation of material innovation this 13th - 19th September, hosting a dynamic showcase of experimental leather projects developed in collaboration with Kingston University’s Product & Furniture Design MA Course and The Leathersellers’ Foundation.

As part of the Park Royal Design District during London Design Festival 2025, the exhibition will feature a curated selection of works-in-progress prototypes and process-led experiments exploring leather’s possibilities through circular design principles, ethics and cultural context. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to experience these works within Bill Amberg’s working studio, immersing themselves in conversations around materials, making and place. Over the past year, Bill Amberg Studio has been collaborating with The Leathersellers’ Foundation to provide surplus leather and offer creative mentorship to Kington’s Product & Furniture Design MA students. Bill Amberg and his team have participated in review sessions, offering valuable insight into the material’s potential, and welcomed students into their workshop, encouraging bold experimentation and guiding them to push the boundaries of what leather can do. This unique exhibition celebrates new thinking in circular design, ethics and the cultural dimensions of working with leather today. Bill Amberg Studio has been at the forefront of leather innovation for 40 years, and stands today as an industry leader in bespoke leather products, interiors and furniture. Bringing together artisans from the worlds of saddlery, bag making, bookbinding and other forms of fine leathercraft, the studio has a mission to explore the aesthetic and material possibilities of leather, while also proudly holding our practices and those of our partner tanneries and suppliers to the industry’s highest ethical and sustainability standards. Work includes bags and accessories – with the Bill Amberg iconic ‘Rocket Bag’ in the permanent collection at both London’s V&A and New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art - through to timeless bespoke furniture and interiors for high-end private residences for Sir David Chipperfield, Veere Grenney and Amin Taha, commercial projects such as the Fine Watch department at Harrods, as well as cultural institutions around the globe, including the Royal Academy of Arts and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries at Westminster Abbey.
