Tai Ping will present its new Biophilic Collection and Biophilic Series for Studio by Tai Ping. Meanwhile, award winning environmentalist, designer and maker Sebastian Cox will create an installation reflecting on the natural beauty of the raw materials and the craftsmanship that transforms them into refined works.

Design leader Tai Ping presents its new Biophilic Collection and Biophilic Series for Studio by Tai Ping, two new offerings made with undyed, natural and sustainable materials. Both collections honour the environment in design as well as function, taking inspiration from organic forms and landscapes. Award winning environmentalist, designer and maker Sebastian Cox will create an installation at the Tai Ping showroom to launch the new Biophilic Collection and Biophilic Series for Studio by Tai Ping. The installation will reflect on the natural beauty of raw materials as well as the remarkable craftsmanship and expertise that transforms them into refined works, celebrating Tai Ping and Sebastian Cox’s shared commitment to the environment and quality in design. Sebastian Cox RDI is an award-winning furniture designer, maker and environmentalist driven by the past to design and make the future. He produces heirloom collections of furniture, lighting and home accessories; bespoke installations; landscape design and design for production. Tai Ping’s six-decade long commitment to the environment is evident through the new Biophilic Collection and Biophilic Series for Studio by Tai Ping. The 16 Biophilic carpets are engineered with aesthetics, durability and sustainability in mind, and celebrate natural phenomena, from organic patterns to the true colours of raw materials. While all Tai Ping products are built to last, the natural face fibres, backing and latex in these rugs ensure minimal impact at the end of their lifecycles. The carpets are also undyed, which removes a water- hungry step in the manufacturing process and further reduces energy consumption. Developed internally by Tai Ping’s Paris Design Studio, Biophilic takes two forms. The Biophilic Series for Studio by Tai Ping introduces eight hybrid-tufted carpets, designed for elegant simplicity. Featuring neutral palettes with subtle nuances of beige and white, Biophilic Series plays with the ideas of light, reflection and organic networks. Aesthetic and geometric, these carpets are accessible and adaptable to a variety of spaces. The Biophilic Collection, comprising eight couture creations, offers a more complex interpretation of the theme. The whole array of Tai Ping’s hand-tufted techniques and finishings are on display in these works, including gradations, multi-level pile heights and specialty sheering. Essential oil plants serve as the namesake for these high-end pieces. The eight works also take inspiration from the Japanese tie-dye technique of Shibori. Shibori’s influence serves both as an homage to an artisanal skill that uses plants to create natural dyes and as a discreet allusion, since the carpets themselves are not dyed. The use of raw fibres began as an ecological choice but quickly became an interesting creative challenge that the designers embraced. This constraint made colour a crucial part of the initial design process, rather than a finishing touch. Without pigment, Tai Ping leans into its expertise in gradients, deftly mixing different shades of wool, silk and jute to achieve an ink-like effect. Bespoke installations crafted by Sebastian Cox in wood will complement the Biophilic rugs through material, colour, form and texture. The scenography will invite the viewer to revere the natural beauty of the raw materials, and their metamorphosis into covetable pieces for the home through artistry and craft.
