Join us for the launch of WilkinsonEyre's book 'Battersea Power Station – The Architectural Rebirth of a Romantic Ruin.'
Once a symbol of London’s industrial might, Battersea Power Station stood silent and decaying for nearly four decades after its decommissioning in 1983. Designed in the 1930s by the celebrated architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the Grade II* listed structure had become a hauntingly beautiful modern ruin – until a bold vision brought it back to life. In 2012, a consortium of Malaysian investors took on the monumental task of reviving this iconic landmark. They entrusted WilkinsonEyre with the delicate and ambitious challenge of repairing and regenerating one of the world’s largest brick buildings. The result? A triumphant reopening in 2022 that marked the building’s transformation into the sustainable centrepiece of a dynamic new London neighbourhood. Join us for a special event with Sebastien Ricard, Board Director at WilkinsonEyre, as he shares the remarkable story behind the architectural rebirth of Battersea Power Station. From navigating the complexities of conservation and engineering to preserving the spirit of a 20th-century icon, Sebastien will offer exclusive insights into the practice’s approach to one of the UK’s most significant heritage-led developments. This is a unique opportunity to explore the power of architecture to honour the past while shaping the future. Don’t miss it.
