Craft Reimagined – FUYI Award 2026

Centred on the curatorial theme Craft Reimagined, this international award-driven cultural exhibition is co-hosted by Copyright Society of China and Henan Media Group (HMG). Presented as an official partner programme of London Design Festival 2026, the exhibition showcases works by recipients of the FUYI Award, exploring the creative dialogue between Chinese cultural heritage and global contemporary art and design. The artworks draw particular inspiration from the rich cultural legacy of Henan. Craft Reimagined looks beyond nostalgic reproductions of historical craft. It contemplates how age-old hand-making knowledge, traditional materials and inherited craftsmanship can survive, evolve and gain new meaning within today’s fast-changing global context. The theme encourages artists not simply to reference past forms, but to dig into the core spirit of craft: material sensibility, manual thinking, patient making and cultural memory. It opens space for cross-cultural experimentation, where heritage-infused ideas intersect with contemporary concerns including sustainability, digital innovation, personal identity and cross-cultural belonging. The exhibition invites cross-cultural reflection on how historical craft wisdom can be re-interpreted within today’s global creative landscape. Rather than museum-style archival display, it delivers diverse contemporary responses spanning visual art, textile, craft, material-based practice and experimental creation. Each artist brings their unique background and research perspective, re-imagining heritage not as static relics, but as living sources for new artistic expression. The project is guided by an international jury panel consisting of Dr. Dilusha Rajapakse and Dr. Nazli Terzioglu. Dr. Tao Wang serves as Art Advisor. Lei Wang is Project Director. Jiabin Xu acts as Chief Curator. Boran Zhang and Yi Lai are Co-Curators. Yiru Wang is Execution Curator. Project delivery is supported by SATURN VII. Hosted at Firepit Gallery, the exhibition features works by FUYI Award recipients: Qianru Huang, Yichen Li, Hu Yuehua, Danlu Peng, Leyu Li, QiYun Chen, Kexin Li, Tiancheng Meng, Ruonan Wang, Fangjing Hu, Wanrong Zhu, Baopu felt, Christopher GE, seph li, and Jingyang Guo. As one of the official partner events of London Design Festival 2026, this exhibition creates a vital cross-cultural platform in London. It connects Chinese traditional civilisation with international creative communities, enabling audiences based in the UK and Europe to encounter fresh, diverse artistic perspectives rooted in Chinese heritage.
