Designing for Calm: Neuroinclusive Interiors

What makes a space feel calmer, clearer and easier to use? At NeuroPlaces, Applelec Interiors is exploring how lighting, acoustics, materiality, pattern, biophilic design and spatial cues can work together to influence the way people experience an environment. Our Designing for Calm approach is not about creating one perfect environment. People experience spaces differently, so we are exploring how designers can create interiors that offer greater clarity, comfort, adaptability and choice. The stand brings together new concepts and adapted Applelec Interiors products developed specifically with neuroinclusive and sensory-considered environments in mind. A central feature is LumiSorb, developed in partnership with acoustic experts acou.space. Combining acoustic treatment with integrated illumination, LumiSorb demonstrates how sound absorption, surface design and light can be resolved as one architectural solution. LumiSorb Flex Wall extends this thinking across larger surfaces, using flowing illumination to create rhythm, support orientation and help define different areas. Visitors will also get a first look at LumiGuide, our new accessible illuminated wayfinding concept. LumiGuide combines illuminated information, tactile illuminated Braille, clearer visual cues and optional NFC functionality to help people understand destinations, anticipate what comes next and navigate unfamiliar spaces with greater confidence. LumiWindow rethinks the traditional illuminated lightbox for neuroinclusive environments, using imagery and controlled backlighting to bring nature, daylight cues and gentle visual interest into spaces where external views or natural daylight may be limited. Our LumiStone Calm Collection introduces 12 curated stone-inspired designs selected for their natural movement, balanced composition and softer visual character, while Parametric Walls explore how non-repetitive, nature-inspired form and integrated illumination can bring depth, natural variation and visual comfort to large architectural surfaces. Completing the showcase, LumiZone brings together flexible linear lighting, illuminated surfaces and intelligent control to explore how light can define zones, support different activities and give people greater influence over their immediate environment. Rather than looking at these elements individually, the installation asks how they can work together to create spaces that respond more thoughtfully to the people using them.
