“Dialogue” by Synthetic State is an interpretive light installation presented at the iconic Television Centre. It is an exploration of a future where an empathetic technology enables our living spaces to communicate and interact with us, encouraging a deeper connection with our environments.

In an era dominated by binary-based digital infrastructure and static, artificial spaces, Synthetic State aims to explore how our lifeless technology can gain the ability to interpret and express itself, akin to a living organism. “Dialogue” is a light installation powered by MAINFRAME, a proprietary processor and early prototype of machine empathy. This novel chip interprets its surroundings with sensors and communicates through lighting to adapt and respond to inhabitants. This installation is designed to support the current identity of the Television Centre as a vibrant and dynamic environment, while also honouring its rich history as a pivotal hub of communication. Highlighting the iconic elements of the Television Centre, “Dialogue” is integrated throughout the space, accentuating the 'Atomic Dots’, environments and architectural features. Using an empathetic and responsive technology able to breathe life into our living spaces, “Dialogue” has the potential to alleviate growing concerns of urban isolation and declining mental health. By fostering a deeper connection between people and our environments - let us explore a future where, through lighting, our living spaces are not just simply passive but instead active participants in our well-being.
