Join us for the public launch of Museum of the Home’s new Discovery Garden and see the result of Together We Grow, a project using permaculture design practice to enrich play, helping to develop ecological and social resilience.
Three years in the making, the Discovery Garden has been co-developed with local children, teachers, playworkers, artists and designers to transform disused land on the Museum grounds into a permaculture and play garden. In response to a lack of child-friendly outdoor space in Hoxton, the space will evolve with activations and family days across the year, and will be opening publicly this September after several years of development. Discover key features include the Brixer, a co-designed adobe brick maker with MATT+FIONA and a habitat and reflection bench with Chanelle Brown. The space will also become home to garden artist-in-residence Abel Holsborough’s work, ‘Small Things Are Possible’, previously commissioned by William Morris Gallery, which researches the radical histories of both London’s adventure playgrounds and community. The Museum has partnered with William Davis Primary School as well as Pearson St Adventure Playground to build a satellite growing site for food production. Those involved with the project have been equipped with resources, skills and language around climate change, food systems and the environment. This project has been supported by UBS, Kusuma Trust UK, the Art Fund, Museum Development London, the Finnis Scott Foundation, the Lennox Hannay Charitable Trust and the Loveday Charitable Trust.
