Done & Dusted? This Slipper Has a Dirty Little Secret
Let’s face it: dust has a bad reputation. It’s clingy, it’s chaotic, and it’s usually the first thing we get rid of during a Sunday clean. But what if we stopped sweeping it aside and started seeing it as something more? I wanted to flip the script on dust - not as waste, but as raw material. Through a mix of curiosity, experimentation, and far too many vacuum bags, I set out to answer one oddly specific question: can dust become a desirable material? But I didn’t want to stop at “interesting material.” I wanted to make something meaningful. That’s where the house slipper came in - a product deeply tied to comfort, warmth, and home. It felt poetic: something that keeps dust off your feet, now made from dust itself. The process is clean, the product is functional, and the message is simple: even the most overlooked things can be full of possibility. This project is about more than slippers. It’s about design as transformation and reminding ourselves that beauty, usefulness, and value can come from the most unexpected places… even the bits under your sofa!
