The annual V&A Emerging Designer Commission invites Arjun Singh Assa, Liang-Jung Chen and Angela Ford to explore the meaning of origin through material investigations and contemporary design practice.
Arjun Singh Assa of Assa Designs explores generational knowledge through craft, heritage, ancestral stories, and how its spiritual roots in Sikhism can be experienced through design. Liang-Jung Chen, drawing from her experience of displacement, explores physical barrier as a design object. The barrier is a protagonist to redefine the relationship between people and objects in the museum. Angela Ford from Studio Raw Origins explores how the dislocation of raw materials from their original habitat creates new assemblages and new design outcomes. The design also draws on stories on the forced movement of people. Display open 14th September - 13th October 2024
