Slancha

For London Design Festival 2026, Slancha invites 10 contemporary designers to reimagine the humble hanging basket as a collectible design object, transforming a familiar feature of British domestic life into a series of one-off sculptural works.

Presented at Awaykin in East London, Hanging Baskets brings together 10 designers working across furniture, sculpture, craft and material research. Each designer has been invited to create a one-off, wall-mounted work designed to hold florals, reinterpreting one of Britain’s most familiar yet overlooked domestic objects through their own material and creative language. Largely unchanged since its popularisation during the Victorian era, the hanging basket has become an almost invisible part of the British landscape. This exhibition places it within the context of contemporary collectible design, exploring the relationship between object, architecture, nature and ornament. Together, the works form a series of suspended gardens throughout Awaykin, asking what happens when an ordinary object is looked at again.
