In Between: From Making to Meaning

Isola returns to London Design Festival for its third edition, continuing its partnership with Shoreditch Design Week, the evolved format of the long-established Shoreditch Design Triangle. From 15–17 September, Isola will present two curated spaces within the historic Shoreditch Town Hall, bringing together designers, studios, brands, and members of the wider Isola Design Community. IN BETWEEN: FROM MAKING TO MEANING In the Council Chamber, In Between: From Making to Meaning explores the processes, gestures, and inspirations that shape design, looking beyond the finished object to the ideas and decisions behind it. A curated selection of designers, studios, and brands will present works spanning craftsmanship, biomaterials, functional design, and collectible objects, revealing the techniques, experiments, and methodologies behind their practices. The exhibition invites visitors to consider how ideas take shape, materials respond, and meaning is built through the act of making. ISOLA SPACE POP-UP In the adjoining Mayor’s Parlour, Isola Space brings a condensed version of its Dubai concept to London, combining a curated pop-up design store, lounge, and programme space for live demonstrations and workshops. Selected designers from the Isola Design Community will present furniture, objects, and collectible works in a gallery-inspired retail environment designed for both discovery and purchase. The lounge will feature key design pieces, including the modular and sculptural Metric seating by partner B&T. Together, the lounge and workshop areas create opportunities for visitors to pause, meet, and engage with designers and fellow creatives. Both spaces are designed using low-impact spatial materials. Separation and layout elements are provided by McKie’s Rotational Bricks, using patented reduced-carbon cement-based bricks. Pedestals and table tops are provided by Sustainable Ply, made from recovered corrugated cardboard and finished with KAVA Surfaces’ eco-friendly coating, produced using recycled coffee and organic waste.
