Stroll down Kensington High Street and peek through the window at Japan House London to find a display that celebrates the very best of Japanese design. Curated by The Shop at Japan House London, this window display features a collection of award-winning products from Japan. Japanese design is highly respected the world over and many Japanese designers are helping shape the future of design on the global stage, such as Hara Kenya, President of Nippon Design Center, Art Director at Muji, and Global Creative Advisor for the Japan House project. In his book Designing Design, Hara Kenya describes design as the “originality that repeatedly extracts astounding ideas from the crevices of the very commonness of everyday life.” In this spirit, many of the products in this display are those used day to day, such as kitchenware, a soy sauce jar, and a toothbrush for children. The Shop at Japan House London blurs the lines between retail space and gallery, offering guests the opportunity to learn about artists, designers, manufacturers and regions of Japan. This display not only celebrates Japanese design as part of the London Design Festival, but gives guests the opportunity to bring Japanese design into their own homes, as the products in the collection are available to purchase.
