This September, during London Design Festival, L.F. Markey presents System T, a solo exhibition by French-born, Belgium-based artist Emma Cogné, at the brand's Dalston flagship store.
System T is a design project by Emma Cogné that works with construction materials usually hidden within buildings, reinterpreting them through weaving, colour and repetition. It focuses on polypropylene cable sleeves, a common industrial material found in domestic and urban contexts, reworked through handmade bead-weaving techniques. This process slows down and reconfigures the material, shifting attention toward the temporal concept of a ‘thick present’, while also challenging conventional ideas of value, beauty and standardisation, as well as more vernacular ways of making and inhabiting space.
From this research emerges a collection of partitions called Turborama, conceived as ‘curtain-objects’ that structure space while preserving intimacy. By shifting scale from bead-based techniques to construction materials, the work extends from the bodily and ornamental to the architectural, positioning these pieces as spatial tools rather than fixed objects.
"Emma's sense of colour first drew me in, along with the dramatic scale of her installation work. I love the way she translates traditional weaving techniques into an architectural language, transforming humble industrial materials into something both beautiful and unexpected. We are thrilled to present her first London exhibition as part of London Design Festival." — Louise Markey, Founder & Creative Director, L.F. Markey
