From the Sky presents a diverse new collection of sculptural lighting, designed to create calming, consciousness enhancing atmospheres. From hand painted wall pieces to minimal desk lamps and sculptural chandeliers, each piece is constructed using a unique combination of contemporary and traditional methods.
Light can have a significant impact on our state of consciousness - at one extreme we have the calming light of a candle and at the other the industrial glare of a fluorescent tube. From the Sky focusses on producing high-quality light, using the best LED light sources, then treating that light by precisely dimming it or treating the surfaces it shines through or reflects from. In this way From the Sky replicates the light of natural phenomena, such as a cottage fireplace, or a forest clearing. This light naturally calms and soothes us, allowing us to feel more natural and more human, whether relaxing at the end of a busy day or bringing focus to our working environment. All of From the Sky’s lights are also sculptural objects in their own right, designed to look beautiful both switched on and switched off, each one offering a unique take on lighting design, from a desk lamp which pivots using neodymium magnets and uses its power supply as a counterweight, to painterly, glowing disks that seem to hover in front of a wall or below a ceiling. The materials and techniques used by From the Sky move beyond design and into fine art, incorporating unique combinations of contemporary and traditional fabrication techniques, from 3D printing and laser cutting, to machining, polishing, hand painting and patination. All of From the Sky's lights are designed to stand the test of time, hand assembled to the highest specification using only the best materials and components - the LED chips are projected to last over 30 years with normal use, and can then be replaced by any competent technician. Keeping production in house and local, for example 3D printing rather than outsourcing plastics manufacturing, significantly reduces the environmental impact of From the Sky’s production processes, and the aluminium featured in many of the lights is up to 70% recycled.
