Jihyo Kim Jewellery

'Nol-ee' is a collection that reinterprets traditional Korean ornaments in a sustainable way, presenting modern Korean jewellery using bio-materials and 3D print technology.

Kim was playfully inspired by the Norigae, a Korean waist ornament, and Yakgwa, a delicious traditional biscuit. Norigae’s movement when worn, links directly into the aesthetics of Korea's tradition of movement and performance. The jewellery forms are very untraditionally inspired by Yakgwa biscuits. With their small, plump volumes and sweet crunchiness they offer a reminder of cuteness and pleasure. Kim’s ambition has been to produce a collection with sustainable materials and processes. Pursuing design circularity for city lives, Kim used coffee grounds from cafes, and a PLA made of discarded scallops and mussel shells, all of which are biodegradable. Nol-ee project aims to create not only sustainable jewellery but also influence people’s awareness how importance of sustainable environment and cultural heritage.
