PriestmanGoode x Royal College of Art - Materials and Health: Nature-Inspired Innovation
Partner Programme
17 — 25 Sept 2022
Materials, Education
What can we learn from nature to create healthier materials? How can we create new materials that are better for people and better for the planet? For LDF 2022, PriestmanGoode is hosting a window exhibition showcasing the outcomes of their annual collaboration with students from the Royal College of Art.
PriestmanGoode has once again teamed up with students from the Royal College of Art in London as part of the studio's commitment to supporting creative education and ensuring a diverse pipeline of new talent entering the design industry. In this 6th year of the collaboration, the MA Textiles students were challenged by PriestmanGoode's Colour, Material and Finish team to consider the ways in which we can learn from nature to create healthier materials. During London Design Festival the work of the winning student and two runners up will be displayed in the window of PriestmanGoode's showroom at 150 Great Portland Street London. A digital exhibition will also be launching with more work from the project at www.priestmangoode.com The brief for this year's collaboration reflects how populations have become more conscious of the environments that surround us. Studies have found that we spend 90% of our time indoors - even before the lockdowns of 2020. The reset moment that people experienced over the last 2 years has allowed them to gain a greater appreciation and understanding of the benefits of being outdoors and the power of nature. Conversely, it has become more apparent that the indoor environments we inhabit could have a detrimental impact on our health. Therefore the students were encouraged to consider how they could have an impact on these spaces? The work considers functionality and aesthetics, as well as circular design principles. PriestmanGoode's is widely recognised as one of the world's leading design studios working in transport, infrastructure, product and customer experience design. The PG x RCA window exhibition has become a recurring feature of London Design Festival in recent years. For more information visit www.priestmangoode.com
