Object 74, a group of emerging designers from the Royal College of Art, launching a three-day exhibition as part of LDF in Shoreditch. The group which formed studying under the same tutor, has produced a range of furniture and art objects that present diverse perspectives on the role of design objects in our homes.
74 is a collective of over ten designers who have spent the past year exploring urgent questions in design research. This exhibition presents the tangible outcomes of their projects, spanning themes from the philosophical to the environmental. Set in a beautifully sunlit space above the heart of Shoreditch, the show invites visitors to immerse themselves in a world of hand-crafted objects and ideas. Uniquely, the show experiments with the traditional gallery format of single objects and their narratives, which the curators think sanitises the process artificially. The exhibition is all about inviting fresh perspectives from visitors. To encourage new perspectives, the objects are being arranged collectively and without accompanying text, while proof of their research, failures and dead ends from a year of intense study are shown together in a smaller, less curated corner that the group feel is truer to the experience they shared. Guests will be invited to record their own anonymous reflections and responses to the works using Dictaphones provided by the group. “Praise, critique and half-baked thoughts are encouraged”, say the curators. The exhibition will have an opening with drinks Friday the 19th from 6-9:30pm! Exhibiting designers: Britney Lee, Alexandre P. Manko, Maxim Lester, Natalie Dubrovska, Caden Hao, Yumeng Wang, Ruichen Xu, Jasmine Prime, Sofia Ortmann, Eleanor Pickin, Max Zhu
