Sanctum of Renewal

Hart Shoreditch is partnering with contemporary urban artist Mali Mowkca to create the exhibition 'Sanctum of Renewal'. This immersive spatial intervention will convert the hotel's restaurant UBA into a contemporary sacred space, a living temple where matter, energy, and perception are in constant movement.

Mowcka will create approximately 160–200 suspended handcrafted wooden pieces with organic forms, emerging from the ceiling and descending into the space. Intertwined with soft translucent resin petals floating delicately throughout the installation, the works introduce a sense of lightness and contrast, creating an atmosphere that feels both immersive and ethereal. The installation takes inspiration from the Japanese concept of Yūgen a philosophy centred on the subtle and mysterious beauty that exists beyond what is immediately visible. Like the suspended forms moving gently across the ceiling of UBA, the installation embraces simplicity, depth, and quiet movement. The organic wooden elements evoke the rhythm of waves shaping a mountain, clouds drifting across the sky, or the soft movement of the sea. Within Yūgen, beauty reveals itself through contemplation and attentive observation, particularly through our connection with nature and the invisible transformations constantly unfolding around us. The installation invites the audience to slow down and enter a more meditative state of perception, where meaning emerges gradually through presence and stillness. The intention of the work is to create a sacred space within everyday life a place that gently renews the viewer with each gaze, opening a path towards introspection, emotional clarity, and inner transformation.
