New to LDF, B Corp Gaze Burvill are renowned for their collections of outdoor furniture, melding design and manufacturing expertise, all craftsman-made in Hampshire, all made with high environmental and ethical credentials.
B-Corp accreditation in the Spring, followed by certification for ‘Grown in Britain’, and a prestigious ‘Design Guild Mark’ for the ground-breaking Woodland Seat: 2024 will have been a year of three milestones for Hampshire furniture specialists Gaze Burvill. Renowned for their collections of outdoor furniture, combining design and manufacturing expertise, and all craftsman-made in Hampshire, the spotlight for London Design Festival is on the Woodland Seat, awarded a 2024 Design Guild Mark from the Furniture Makers Company. The Woodland Seat is made from certified Chestnut, a durable and strong wood from a tree variety (Sweet Chestnut) that is likely to thrive in British latitudes in a time of climate change. Like Oak, Chestnut can be steam bent, as impressively showcased in this enchanting design. After the design and CNC machining of complex components, every one a twisting form, more old-school crafts person's skills, like steam-bending then make an entrance. Furniture, beautifully made to stand the test of time, and chairs that are comfortable and practical, as well as handsome, have been hallmarks of Gaze Burvill, and the Woodland Seat is no exception, working to the same rigorous standards. Because the design, prototyping and manufacturing teams are all based at the Hampshire site, not to mention customer and sales support, the result is a professional, responsive and cohesive service. Gaze Burvill is using sustainably sourced temperate hardwoods, like Oak and Sweet Chestnut for its collections of outdoor furniture and kitchens, has been an award-winning favourite of the garden design community, recognized for its high environmental and ethical credentials. Founder Simon Burvill, trustee of charity Woodland Heritage, explains: “The B Corp mission is to make business ‘a force for good in the world’. It is my own mission to make Gaze Burvill succeed in that challenge, and be part of the new wave of British furniture design, responsibly sourced and superbly manufactured in the UK.” The Woodland Seat will be on view in LDF week in the Gaze Burvill showroom at 2 Garrison Square, Chelsea Barracks, SW1 8BG, 2 minutes from Pimlico Road.
