STRATA is an open studio presentation by 1:4:9 exploring pellet-based 3D printing through a new series of transparent lighting objects, material experiments and works in progress.

For London Design Festival, 1:4:9 opens its studio with STRATA, a presentation exploring the relationship between material, computation and large-format additive manufacturing. At the centre of the exhibition is a newly developed table lamp produced using the pellet 3D printer. Made from a transparent material, the lamp transforms light into a soft, tactile glow, highlighting the layered texture of the printed form. The finished lighting piece is presented with prototypes, test prints and material samples developed throughout the design process. Together, these objects offer a closer look at how form emerges through an ongoing dialogue between computational design, machine movement and material behaviour. The open studio invites visitors to encounter the final object, as well as the experiments and intermediate stages that shape the work.
