Ethical jeweller Pippa Small hosts a talk with Shoshana Stewart (Turquoise Mountain), Matthew Bourne (Christopher Farr), and Edmund le Brun (ISHKAR), chaired by writer Sally Williams. They discuss innovative partnerships with Turquoise Mountain that drive design, create jobs, and celebrate cultural heritage and skills.
Join us for an inspiring event with ethical jeweller Pippa Small, whose lifelong journey in jewellery making transforms stories into tangible treasures. Pippa's career began in medical anthropology, focusing on human rights among minorities and indigenous peoples. This passion seamlessly transitioned into her jewellery design, collaborating with these very groups. In 2008, Pippa forged a powerful partnership with the arts charity Turquoise Mountain. Together, they work with artisans in Afghanistan, Myanmar, and the Levant. Founded in 2006 by His Majesty King Charles III, Turquoise Mountain supports artisans and their communities with everything they need to sustain themselves and revitalise their heritage. They collaborate with jewellery brands like Pippa Small, rug producers like Christopher Farr and homeware and jewellery brands like ISHKAR, creating secure jobs and preserving cultural heritage. They believe the act of creation is more than crafting objects; it’s an act of hope and optimism for the future. Every piece is handmade with pride and love, honouring the delicate inconsistencies of the human touch and rich in legacy and history. This stands in stark contrast to modern machine-powered techniques that threaten ancient skills. The impact of these collaborations is profound, providing economic opportunities while preserving cultural heritage. Join us to hear from Pippa, TM, and other partnering brands – Christopher Farr, ISHKAR - as they discuss this unique business model. Learn about the challenges and realities of working in conflict areas and how these partnerships have thrived over the past decade. Hear directly from the artisans about the significance of their work. This is more than a discussion; it celebrates resilience and cultural heritage. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of a conversation that honours tradition and crafts a hopeful future.
