The Strange Everyday

The Strange Everyday: Rethinking the Ordinary is a group exhibition presented by Blackdot Gallery for London Design Festival 2026. The exhibition looks at the things we live with every day, the objects, gestures and materials that usually sit quietly in the background, and gives them another life. Across the show, familiar forms begin to shift. A chair behaves differently. Jewellery becomes a tool. Waste turns precious. A cup becomes an instrument. A lamp, a textile, a mirror, a vessel or a small fragment of material becomes something less fixed and more open. Bringing together 36 artists and designers, the exhibition moves across jewellery, textiles, ceramics, furniture, glass, lighting, installation, moving image and experimental craft. Some works are playful and tactile, while others are quiet, emotional or uneasy. Together, they invite visitors to slow down and look again at the ordinary things around them. Rather than treating the everyday as something plain or invisible, The Strange Everyday finds memory, humour, care, tension and surprise in the objects closest to us.
