How can a new typeface be designed to capture the flavour of a city? Join us for an inspirational talk that celebrates the incredibly rich connection between type and place.

From road signs to shop windows, letters in the public space play a vital role in the perception of the identity of our cities. A new typeface can be inspired by the heritage of a place and its community, and in turn comes to represent their visual character to the eyes of the world. From vernacular to institutional, from physical to digital… through different languages and writing systems. With creative director Riccardo De Franceschi, we will look at selected project case studies that explore the relationship between type, place and culture, through Dalton Maag’s work both with place brands and retail.
