Role Overview

The Programme Director will lead the strategic development, curation, and execution of all programming for the Global Design Forum. This role requires a strong vision for engaging, relevant, and impactful content, a deep understanding of the design sector, and a robust network of industry leaders. The Programme Director will have an established profile within the design world, with the ability to attract top speakers, secure sponsorship, and engage a diverse audience. Reporting directly to the IDEA Group Board, the Programme Director will also manage an Event Coordinator to support the delivery of a seamless event experience.

Key Responsibilities


Content Strategy and Curation:

o Develop a dynamic and forward-thinking programme of talks, panels, workshops, and interactive sessions that align with the Global Design Forum’s mission and address key topics in design, innovation, and sustainability.

o Research industry trends and engage with the design community to ensure the programme covers pressing issues, emerging trends, and global perspectives.

o Curate content that appeals to a broad audience, from thought leaders and experts to practitioners and enthusiasts.

Speaker Recruitment and Relationship Management:
o Leverage industry contacts to secure top names in the design field, including prominent designers, thought leaders, academics, and innovators.

o Build and maintain strong relationships with speakers, ensuring alignment with event themes and fostering long-term partnerships.

o Oversee all communications with speakers to ensure a seamless experience, from invitation through event day.

Sponsorship and Partnership Development:
o Identify and secure sponsorship opportunities, creating compelling sponsorship

packages that align with partners’ objectives and maximize their engagement.

o Cultivate and manage relationships with potential and existing sponsors, including regular updates and post-event reporting.

o Work closely with the COO and marketing team to explore partnership opportunities that enhance the Forum’s reach and impact.

Team Leadership and Event Coordination:
o Supervise and mentor the Event Coordinator, providing guidance on logistics, operations, and on-site management.

o Collaborate with internal departments and external vendors to ensure all elements of the event are executed smoothly, from speaker arrangements to AV and digital content requirements.

o Oversee timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure programme delivery is on time and within budget.

Programme Evaluation and Continuous Improvement:
o Gather feedback from attendees, sponsors, and speakers to evaluate the success of the event and inform future programming.

o Lead post-event analysis, identifying areas for improvement and developing strategies to elevate future events.

Skills and Qualifications

Professional Background:

o Bachelor’s degree in Design, Arts, Communications, Event Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant industry certification is a plus.

o Established profile within the design industry with a minimum of 7 years of experience in event programming, content curation, or a related role in the design or creative sector.

o Proven track record in securing high-profile speakers and sponsors for industry- leading events.

Core Competencies:

o Strong knowledge of global design trends, industry issues, and key topics, with a passion for inspiring change through design.

o Demonstrated ability to curate and execute a compelling programme, ensuring high engagement and relevance for diverse audiences.

o Excellent networking, communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence and engage high-profile industry figures.

o Strong project management skills with a proven ability to manage budgets, timelines, and resources effectively.

o Sponsorship and partnership development experience, with a focus on building mutually beneficial, long-term relationships.
