<0&1>,is a digital video installation that merges AI-driven visual and auditory elements within a traditional setting. Projected on a vertical 86-inch screen, it reflects the vertical framing found in smartphone-based short-form content, creating a contemporary commentary on digital consumption. At its core, <0&1> explores the complex relationship between humans and technology in the digital age. Despite the convenience and efficiency offered by digital innovation, the work emphasizes the growing concern that human communication and emotional connection are being eroded. The AI-generated "black horse" featured in the piece serves as a symbolic representation of technological progress and the values lost along the way. As the horse runs endlessly through the ever-changing environment of the tent, it reflects humanity's continuous adaptation to technological advancements, while also re-examining the essential values that are left behind. The installation is set within St. Ethelburga's Bedouin Tent, a space symbolizing peace and community. The juxtaposition of cutting-edge digital video within this traditional setting accentuates the fusion of technology and heritage, highlighting that while technology streamlines the creative process, human emotional connection and fundamental creative values must remain central. The experimental nature of <0&1> calls attention to the essential role of creativity in an age dominated by digital innovation. This piece draws inspiration from Bill Viola's "The Crossing" (1996, Tate Modern), where natural elements and symbolic narratives merge to evoke reflections on life and existence through meditative pacing. Informed by Viola's immersive methods, <0&1> incorporates similar approaches in its storytelling and its choice of location. The historical and symbolic significance of St. Ethelburga's Bedouin Tent echoes the transcendental themes explored by Viola, allowing <0&1> to extend the conversation on how digital innovation shapes human communication without replacing core human experiences. Experiments on Generative AI and Creativity: The rise of Generative AI has positioned the technology as a tool to expand human creativity, but it also poses risks. <0&1> explores both aspects of this duality, demonstrating that AI can enhance and complement human creativity, rather than undermine it. Exhibitor engaged in multiple iterations with AI throughout the creative process, using feedback loops to refine the final work and demonstrating that AI, when guided by human insight, can lead to more meaningful outcomes. Exploration of Digital Nomadism : Reflecting the spirit of the digital nomad era, <0&1> was developed through a global collaboration. Bo-Young Lee worked remotely with an audio engineer from the Jakarta Institute of Arts and co-produced the project with a German-based video creator. Staying in Dubai, South Korea, and London, this process exemplifies how digital technologies can facilitate seamless collaboration across geographical boundaries, highlighting the transformative power of remote working in creative fields. Guerrilla Exhibition and Expansive Potential: <0&1> is presented as a guerrilla exhibition, installed for a single day within the St. Ethelburga's Bedouin Tent as last date of the London Design Festival. This brief installation reflects the rapid transformations of the digital age. Documented in a 3-minute art film, the exhibition will continue to expand its reach through various digital platforms, offering further potential beyond the physical installation. Conducted by BoYoung Lee BoYoung Lee is a Digital art project manager who graduated from the Royal College of Art.
