As part of the creative showcases at the Brompton Design District of London Design Festival 2022, Art of Storytelling - presented by Kartell and curated by STIR, is an evening of eye-opening talks by five leading creatives, who will shed light on how they build narratives through their respective artistic mediums. Since time immemorial, constructing and sharing narratives has been an indelible aspect of being human and making sense of the world. From time-spun yarns recounted by bards of yore to more contemporary mediums such as print, theatre, film, and television, the art of storytelling has manifested in a multitude of forms over the centuries, with technological advancements and cross-disciplinary collaboration allowing for newer and more immersive channels of expression with each successive incarnation. Aside from its most obvious associations with literature or the performing arts, when considering the work of creatives from the disciplines of art, architecture, and design, storytelling is a means of world-building… to wonder what if and to seek how else. Exploring avenues towards realities that are more plural and sustainable, as well as socially and environmentally conscious, storytelling in this form takes on a distinct character of its own, one entirely separate yet inextricably linked to its original roots. Driven by a desire to explore new paths, engage in fresh experiences, and revel in their intense passion for creation, Italian furniture manufacturer Kartell is facilitating an initiative that will unite five cross-disciplinary creatives as narrators, to share their perspectives on channelling the art of storytelling through their chosen crafts. Aiming to stir the thoughts of diverse audiences at the Brompton Design District during the London Design Festival 2022, Art of Storytelling - presented by Kartell and curated by STIR, brings together the voices of eminent creative professionals such as Alexandra Walker, Morag Myerscough, Osman Yousefzada, Tim Marlow OBE, and Vadim Grigoryan. Through a sequence of 10-minute presentations in formats and mediums of their choosing, each of the five speakers will delve into how they observe, create, communicate, and address pertinent real-world challenges through art and design. To accompany this, Kartell will also be revamping their retail space in Brompton to display a range of products from their catalogue, including furniture and product designs by Rodolfo Dordoni, Patricia Urquiola, Piero Lissoni, Philippe Starck, and Ferruccio Laviani, alongside the company’s new Eyewear Collection. Furthermore, the brand will also showcase the result of a partnership with Italian coffee company illy christened Re-Chair. Made of recycled iperEspresso coffee capsules from illy, the chair was designed by Italian architect Antonio Citterio and is expected to be the first of a new collection, highlighting Kartell’s research into alternative materials and sustainable production, in a move towards circular design. Join us on the evening of September 22 from 6:00 pm onwards for an illuminating dive into the Art of Storytelling, followed by canapés, and coffee and cocktails by illy. Programme: 6:00 pm (please be seated by 6:15 pm), narrations followed by conversations over canapés, and cocktails and coffee by illy Venue: 223 Brompton Rd, London SW3 2EJ, United Kingdom
