Amechi is a London-based design brand founded by Cameroon-born product and furniture designer Amechi Mandi, with a focus on drawing inspiration from the vibrant wellspring of indigenous African traditions, textiles, and cultures, and breathing new life into them through playful and engaging designs.
Presented is the latest collection from Amechi, entitled Asafo; a series of five jacquard-woven blankets that bring the beauty and heritage of Asafo flags into the contemporary home. The Asafo collection celebrates the artistry and cultural significance of Asafo flag culture, a tradition of the Fante people of Ghana. Captivated by their vibrant imagery and rich history, Amechi have created a series of throw blankets with playfulness as the main motif, to evoke the same curiosity that the flags inspired in them. Each blanket unfolds an imagined story, woven with humour and designed to spark curiosity and a deeper appreciation for the rich iconography of Fante Asafo flags. The collection bridges the past and present, bringing the distinctive charm of Asafo art into the modern home. Versatile and easy to care for, these throws are perfect for cosying up, decorating, or even adding flair to a picnic or wall. Asafo by Amechi will be on display on the Mezzanine of The Hoxton, Southwark throughout London Design Festival.
