amaka lin. has documented the community research project Brickfield Newham, which set up a brickworks on a construction site in the Royal Docks this year. amaka has captured how local communities came together to make bricks from local industrial waste materials and also share their experiences of living in Newham.
Brickfield Newham is a V&A Research Institute and V&A East collaboration in partnership with St. Austell’s artist-led project Brickfield and University of East London’s Performing Arts department. Supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Newham Heritage Month and Arts Council England. The project was created by Georgia Haseldine (V&A), Lynne McCarthy (UEL) and Rosanna Martin (Brickfield). amaka lin. is a London based director, writer and filmmaker. With a background in documentary, her work is rooted in an observational style, aiming to capture the intimacy and stillness in everyday stories. She has previously worked with organisations such as Inclusive Mosque Initiative, Pulse Films, Tomboy Films, V&A, University of East London, and was shortlisted in 2021 for the Global Girl Media Festival for best documentary film. She directed the short audio thriller ‘Big Mummy’ co-produced by Tiny Lungs Collective and BBC/ICA. She also works in production as a picture researcher, designer and any other hats that can fit.
